Penduka Women's Project

Meerkat Safaris, through its business activities, has incorporated local community support by bringing guests into contact with the Penduka Women's Project. Penduka means “wake up” in the Oshiwambo language. The project’s main aim is to awaken local women into the mainstream of social and economic activities.

Founded in 1992, Penduka helps women from rural communities and challenging backgrounds acquire skills to earn a sustainable income through craftwork. Skills training offered at the center includes:

  • Embroidery

  • Recycled glass jewelry & beads

  • Pottery

  • Gardening

  • Aquaponics systems

  • Storytelling

During your tour, depending on timing and their schedules, you may get the chance to watch these talented women in action—making glass beads, creating batik fabric, shaping pottery, or crafting beautiful embroidery.

At the end of your visit, you can browse their onsite shop to purchase souvenirs and meaningful gifts for your loved ones back home. The center is located on the banks of the Goreangab Water Reservoir, offering a peaceful lakeside atmosphere where you can relax, enjoy fresh air, and even stay for lunch or dinner.

📍 A heartwarming experience combining community empowerment with artisan culture.
